INTERACTIVE EXCHANGE I
"We are following movement by watching the center move.
Center of gravity, that is, in the low pelvis." *

Lesson I
Floor Work
(Beginning Class)
These exercises emphasize
SEQUENTIAL MOVEMENT
— Pelvis — Rib Cage — Head —
a progressive deepening of movement
that integrates the pelvis
&
brings the spine into action

These three exercises are only a few of the many movements
that together add up to a complete warm-up.
They are basic and appear quite simple.
Learning to do them correctly
can have a profound effect on your technique.

We Hawkins dancers
— often, but not always —
start the warm-up with floorwork
to activate the central postural support system of the body
— "integrate" the pelvis and spine —
before adding the challenge of weight-bearing through the legs.
This contributes to better alignment and coordination when we do stand up.
It also begins to articulate the movement of the torso
— a hallmark of modern dance.

A Movement for Gloria!
In a Coaching Session for Interactive Exchange I,
Diane Aldis & Derek Phillips demonstrated
an 8-count phrase . . .
Or was it a 9 — no,wait! — a 10-count phrase!!?
(Whatever the count, the movement looks suspiciously like
McLean/Hawkins "undercurve/overcurve" — !
